Frequently Asked Questions about our online Lost and Found application

I have submitted a lost or found report online and my animal does not appear on the list?

After completing a lost or found report online, you will be sent an email from support@petharbor.com with the subject line: We have received your information. Within the email, you must click the link in the second paragraph to make your report active.

NOTE: KCAC reserves the right to remove any reports found to contain profanity and/or abusive language and/or inappropriate pictures. Pictures MUST be representative of the animal they are showing so other members of the public can identify the animal. Pictures MUST include the face of the animal and any significant markings to help with identification. Reports not meeting these criteria will be removed and not posted as they do not meet the standards of KCAC.

I submitted a photo with my online report but it doesn't appear online?

We are using a software company to track all lost and found animals throughout the Kane County area. This software company must approve your photo before it is published. This could happen right away, or it could take up to two business days.

My lost animal has been found, how do I delete my report?

Call our office at (630)232-3555 so we can close out your report. If you would like to stop getting emails about potential matches after your animal has been found, please click the link at the bottom of the email you receive from support@petharbor.com.

How often will I receive emails about potential matches?

When a potential match has been made, you will receive an email from support@petharbor.com. Emails are sent once a day, most likely in the morning. If you have reported an animal as found and you are keeping that animal at your house, you could receive emails more frequently if someone thinks you have found their lost animal.

Where do you recommend reuniting a lost/found pet?

When meeting someone to return a lost/found animal, KCAC recommends meeting at a public location, like the Kane County Sheriff’s office or a local police department.
